FAQs About Online Counseling and Therapy from ZenZone Health
Therapy will be different for each person, depending on their issues and goals. Typically, sessions involve discussing current events, personal history, and progress from previous sessions. Therapy can be short-term or longer-term, and it's common to have regular weekly sessions. Active participation is important for results, and your therapist may suggest activities outside of sessions to support your progress. Therapy is for those ready to make positive changes, open to new perspectives, and willing to take responsibility for their lives.
Therapy can help with mental and emotional problems better than medication alone. Therapy does more than just treat symptoms; it also addresses the causes of distress and the behavior patterns that limit progress. An integrated approach to wellness is best for long-term growth and well-being. Your doctor can help you decide whether medication, therapy, or both are the right choice for you.
Everyone experiences difficult times in life, and while you may have effectively dealt with other challenges you've encountered, there's no shame in reaching out for extra assistance when you require it. Seeking therapy is actually a sign of self-awareness and strength, as it indicates that you recognize the need for support. By seeking therapy, you are demonstrating accountability for your current circumstances and showing a commitment to making a change. Therapy offers enduring advantages and guidance, equipping you with the necessary skills to avoid potential triggers, redirect harmful behaviors, and conquer any obstacles that come your way.

Exploring the Many Benefits of Online Counseling in Athens, GA
Studies indicate that therapy is generally effective and offers numerous advantages. Therapy can help you recognize sources of distress, gain better self-understanding, and reach your goals. While traditional in-person counseling is an option for many, it's not for everyone. Here are some of the biggest benefits of online therapy:
Access to Support When Living in Remote Areas
Online therapy provides mental health support to individuals living in rural or remote areas who may not have access to traditional in-person therapy due to a lack of local mental health services. Seeking face-to-face therapy in such cases often involves long drives and significant time commitments, which can be challenging for those with busy schedules. However, with reliable internet access, telehealth therapy sessions offer a convenient and relatively quick way to access treatment that might otherwise be difficult to obtain.
Affordable and Convenient
While this wasn't always the case, modern counseling online is usually quite affordable and convenient. You can schedule therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home at times that suit you best. Plus, many states now mandate that insurance providers cover online therapy just like traditional therapy (you should contact your insurance company to see if telehealth counseling is covered). Add that to the fact that telehealth is generally affordable even without insurance coverage, and you can see why so many people check in with their counselors on a weekly and even daily basis.
Access to Counseling if You're Physically Disabled
When you're disabled physically, everyday tasks like getting dressed and running errands can be extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, disabled men and women often forego therapy because they can't make it to the therapist's office. Online therapy offers a way for people with disabilities or limited mobility to access mental health care. A therapist working from home may not have the facilities to cater to clients with different needs, but with online counseling, you can still access quality care.
Better Availability
Telehealth therapy sessions in Athens, GA offer an easier way for people to connect with a counselor, especially for those who need help but might be deterred by various obstacles. Individuals struggling with mental health issues like social anxiety disorder, depression, mood disorders, or post-traumatic stress disorder may find it difficult to motivate themselves to seek out a therapist, book appointments, and travel to their office for the initial and subsequent meetings.
If booking an appointment with a traditional therapist isn't in the cards, it could be time to try counseling online.
Therapy is More Approachable
The internet has made mental health treatment more accessible. People might find it easier to discuss physical health problems with friends and family than mental health concerns. However, online access can help overcome the stigma associated with mental health issues. Teletherapy can also be a valuable tool for learning more about mental health and strengthening your psychological well-being, even if you're not struggling with mental health issues.
A Note from ZenZone Health: If you or a loved one is experiencing suicidal thoughts, contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 on your phone. You can contact this number 24/7, day or night.
When is the Best Time to Seek Counseling Online in Athens, GA?
If you're reading this, chances are you or a loved one is struggling in life. You may be dealing with added stress at work, grieving after a traumatic life event, or working through a rocky relationship. Dealing with these issues alone can be challenging. But asking for help can be, too. That's especially true when you're dealing with mental health issues. Fortunately, a licensed therapist may be able to provide the support and tools you need to get back to a normal life. If you're wondering whether you need online counseling, keep these situations in mind.
Living with Substance Abuse Problems
Dealing with addictions, whether it's substance abuse or behavioral addictions like gambling, can feel incredibly daunting. Therapy is an essential part of the recovery process as it delves into the underlying causes of these issues. With help from remote therapists, you develop skills to help maintain sobriety and prevent relapses. For example, if you're struggling with alcohol addiction, an online therapist can help you identify triggers and teach you new, healthier ways to cope with those triggers instead of using alcohol.
Dealing with Relationship Issues
Relationship struggles can be a huge motivating factor for seeking therapy. These issues may involve friends, romantic partners, or family members. For instance, a couple may turn to couples counseling to address communication or trust issues. An online counselor can assist individuals in resolving these issues and developing improved communication skills, boundaries, and coping strategies.
Symptoms of a Mental Health Condition
Conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, ADHD, and PTSD can significantly disrupt daily life. Symptoms can manifest as constant feelings of worry or frequent headaches. Therapy, along with medication or lifestyle adjustments, can be an effective treatment for mental health. For example, a person with anxiety might learn relaxation techniques to manage stress levels with the help of a therapist. Similarly, someone experiencing depression may learn coping skills to maintain a more positive outlook on life.
New Challenges in Life
Dealing with common - albeit challenging - events in life, like losing a job, coping with grief, or undergoing major changes, can be very disruptive. If you find yourself losing interest in your usual activities, it could be a sign of a mental health condition like major depressive disorder. Therapy offers essential support and guidance for managing these issues, which can help individuals overcome their obstacles. For instance, a person grieving the loss of a loved one may benefit from online counseling as they navigate through their emotions. Similarly, someone who has relocated to a new city might find online therapy beneficial as they adapt to their new home, community, and workplace.
Trauma from Childhood
Childhood trauma can have a lasting impact on people as they mature. Virtual therapy with a licensed professional can assist people in processing these experiences and recovering from them, which may help them comprehend and address any existing issues. For instance, individuals who experienced neglect as children can work through feelings of abandonment in therapy, potentially alleviating the anxiety they may be feeling in their romantic relationship.

ATHENS, Ga. — The fifth-ranked Georgia football team piled up the offensive yards Saturday at Sanford Stadium, amassing 605 in a 41-31 win over Mississippi State. Quarterback Carson Beck threw for a career-high 459 yards and three touchdowns, completing passes to 11 different receivers.
With the win, Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC) extended its school-record winning streak on Dooley Field to 28 games. The Bulldogs haven't lost between the hedges since 2019. Georgia's senior class, which has never lost a home game, improved its overall record to 47-3, the best mark in the FBS. The 2024 seniors are only three wins away from tying the 2023 class' program-best win total of 50.
Beck spread the ball around plenty, with five different Bulldogs catching four or more passes. Wideout Arian Smith had five catches for a career-high 134 yards and a touchdown.
Mississippi State (1-5, 0-3) produced the game's first turnover and turned it into three points. On Georgia's second offensive play, a Beck pass was tipped and intercepted by cornerback Brice Pollock at the UGA 26-yard line. Georgia's defense then moved State backward thanks to defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins' stop for a five-yard loss, and State's Kyle Ferrie kicked a 47-yard field goal to put MSU ahead 3-0.
Georgia answered with a 10-play drive that ended with a 45-yard Peyton Woodring field goal to tie the game, 3-3, with 7:09 remaining in the first quarter.
After the defense got another quick stop — State had a total of seven yards after three possessions — Georgia's offense went to work and drove 81 yards for the game's first touchdown. A 26-yard completion from Beck to Smith moved the ball down to the MSU 29. On third-and-long, Beck hit London Humphreys for 21 yards, down to the 5. Branson Robinson put Georgia up 10-3 with a 5-yard touchdown run with 2:13 left in the quarter. Woodring pushed the Georgia lead to 13-3 with a 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter.
Mississippi State cut the lead to 13-10 with a pair of big pass plays, First, quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. hit Mario Craver for a 72-yard gain up the right side, down to the Georgia 5. After back-to-back penalties on State moved the ball back to the 24, Van Buren connected with Kelly Akharaiyi for a 24-yard touchdown with 8:46 left until halftime.
Georgia produced some big plays of its own on the ensuing possession. On the first play of the drive, Beck connected with Dillon Bell across the middle for a 23-yard gain. On the final play, Beck hit Bell in the back of the end zone for a 31-yard score and a 20-10 lead with 6:32 to go in the second.
On first down at the UGA 20 after another State punt, Beck hit Smith down the left hash for a 55-yard gain to the MSU 25. Later in the drive, running back Cash Jones caught a direct snap in the backfield, handed the ball off to Beck, and the quarterback then lofted a pass to tight end Oscar Delp on the right side for a 17-yard gain to the 1.
After the two-minute timeout, Beck found tight end Lawson Luckie in the back of the end zone for the score and a 27-10 lead. Safety KJ Bolden picked off the first pass of his career on State's final drive of the half, giving the offense the ball at the UGA 19 with 27 seconds left. Beck drove the Bulldogs down to the State 37 and Woodring attempted a 55-yard field goal as time expired. The kick, which would have tied the kicker's career-long, was wide left.
Georgia outgained State 369-130 in the first half, with 96 of MSU's yards coming on two plays. State gained just four first downs in the first two quarters. Beck had 317 passing yards at the half, completing passes to 10 different receivers, and Georgia averaged 8.0 yards per play.
That Georgia average went up on the Bulldogs' first drive of the third quarter. Beck hit tight end Ben Yurosek up the left side for a 29-yard gain on the second play of the possession, the Stanford transfer's first catch for UGA, and on the next play, Beck found Smith for a 42-yard touchdown and a 34-10 lead.
State answered with a 75-yard scoring drive that ended with a 19-yard rushing touchdown by Johnnie Daniels, cutting Georgia's lead to 34-17 with 8:27 remaining in the third. On the first play of the ensuing UGA drive, wideout Anthony Evans ran 52 yards to the State 23. Two plays later, Beck was picked off at the goal line by cornerback DeAgo Brumfield.
Mississippi State turned that takeaway into points with a 10-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Van Buren to running back Davon Booth on fourth-and-goal from the 2. That cut Georgia's lead to 34-24 with 2:40 to play in the third quarter.
Georgia had more than 500 yards of offense heading into the fourth quarter, but State was still in the game. Georgia's defense got a key stop and forced a punt with 10:59 to play, and the Bulldog offense sealed the victory with a long, clock-chewing drive.
At the end of the 16-play, 81-yard drive that took 7:26 off the clock, running back Trevor Etienne plowed into the end zone from the 1 to give Georgia a 41-24 lead with 3:33 to play. Beck's 36th completion of the game, a 21-yarder to Bell on the left side to the MSU 4, gave the quarterback a new career-high in passing yardage and tied the school single-game record for completions.
Mississippi State, after getting just four first downs in the first half, had 13 in the second, finishing with 385 total yards. Freshman quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr., who had 36 career passing attempts coming into the game, was 20 of 37 for 306 yards and three touchdowns Saturday. The last was a 35-yarder to Akharaiyi with 1:47 remaining that made it a 41-31 game.
The Bulldogs hit the road next week to face Texas in Austin, in the first SEC meeting between the programs. The top-ranked Longhorns routed No. 18 Oklahoma 34-3 on Saturday.

Georgia football junior safety Malaki Starks certainly sounded bought in to give Mississippi State his undivided attention when talking this week about its offense coming to Athens for Saturday’s game.
It is second-to-last in the SEC in scoring at 27.4 points per game and 12th of 16 teams in total offense at 380.2 yards per game.
“Records and numbers can be deceiving,” he said of a Mississippi State team that is 1-4 with its lone win in its season opener against Eastern Kentucky. “They’re a really good team, very explosive, very well-coached. They’re coming off a bye week and I think they’re last two weeks they’ve played their best ball. They’re coming in this week with a really good head of steam.”
Mississippi State has lost its last six SEC games, the fourth longest conference losing streak nationally.
Georgia is 4-1, 2-1 in the SEC and coming off a 31-13 win over Auburn last week at home.
“They’re a really, really good team,” Mississippi State safety Isaac Smith told reporters. “They’re going to be really physical. They’ve got a really good quarterback (Carson Beck), kind of a veteran guy. I look forward to the challenge and going over there and showing people we’ve been improving especially from Texas (a 35-13 loss) to the bye week to now.”

JT Daniels on his time as Georgia football QB, starting coaching career back in state

JT Daniels’ college football story arc has nearly come full circle in a roundabout way.
Four years after he made his Georgia debut in Mississippi State’s last visit to Sanford Stadium, Daniels is back in the state in his first coaching job after a long and winding playing career.
Technically, his title at West Georgia is offensive analyst but he works closely with quarterbacks at the Carrollton school.
“We talk about game plan specific stuff, quarterbacking in general,” Daniels said.
Daniels knows about the twists and turns that can come with the position.
He went from five-star recruit from Irvine, Calif. to freshman starter at Southern Cal in 2018, transferred to Georgia where he made his debut in the seventh game of the 2020 season, lost the starting job to Stetson Bennett, transferred to West Virginia and then again to Rice.
Now he’s at FCS level West Georgia, which is 1-4 after a 20-16 home loss to Austin Peay. The Wolves play Saturday at Central Arkansas.
How former Georgia football player JT Daniels wound up coaching
Daniels medically retired from football due to four concussions after playing nine games last season at Rice.
He went to Senior Bowl week in Mobile last winter to try to get into coaching. He chatted there with Dan Lanning, the former Georgia defensive coordinator and now Oregon coach, and Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
Daniels, 24, joined the West Georgia staff largely because of his ties to offensive coordinator Dane Stevens, who was a Southern Cal graduate assistant when Daniels was there.
Carrollton, population 26,738, is located not far from the Alabama border.
“Everywhere I’ve ever been in Georgia, I’ve really enjoyed it," Daniels said. "I loved living in Georgia when I lived in Athens. I feel very similar about Carrollton.”
Looking back to that 2020 Mississippi State game, Daniels called it “a pretty eventful night. Any time you come off of 13 months of not playing, it feels weird to step in. Every time you take the field, a lot of things can happen to you when you play football. And the last time you literally played against a live defense, you tore an ACL, there’s definitely something in your mind that plays and can bring with it a certain set of emotions.”
Daniels completed 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-24 win.
“Mississippi State kind of sold out to stop the run," he said. "It was lucky I had Todd Monken calling it and George (Pickens), Jermaine (Burton), Kearis (Jackson), Darnell (Washington), a lot of guys in the receiving game that stepped up and played really well.”
No Georgia quarterback had passed for 400 yards in a game since until Sept. 28, when Carson Beck put up 439 in Georgia's 41-34 loss at Alabama.
“When his opportunity came, he took advantage of it,” Monken, the then Georgia offensive coordinator, said of Daniels before the Peach Bowl that season.
JT Daniels savors Georgia football's 'team-first mentality'
Daniels lost the starting job in 2021 while battling an oblique injury and then a sprained lat muscle.
He left Georgia with a 7-0 record as starter and a national championship ring — the program’s first in 41 years — that is in his parents' Dallas home.
“That whole experience was great,” Daniels said. “It’s obviously difficult being a guy that’s pretty constantly dealing with a lot of injuries kind of week in and week out, but being part of the team was great.”
As for that perfect record as a starter, Daniels said: “Someone showed me, I have to be the only Georgia quarterback to never cross the line of scrimmage with the ball in my hands. I have a career rushing long at Georgia of zero yards.”
Daniels said he keeps in touch with several former Georgia teammates including Bennett. He texted Brock Vandagriff after he and Kentucky beat Ole Miss a couple of weeks ago.
“Being a part of a team like that, I think one of the reasons why that team was as successful as it was and why Georgia continues to be so successful is sort of the team-first mentality,” Daniels said. “When you’re on the team, everybody does truly buy into that. There’s a strong next man up mentality that every team talks about but not every team necessarily lives up to it.”
Daniels is getting accustomed to being on a college football staff and determining if he’s in for the long haul.
“There’s a few options,” he said. “I’m also really interested in psychology and also getting my master’s.”
Daniels worked with Trevor Moawad, the late mental conditioning coach, and Drew Brannon, a sports psychologist who has teamed with Georgia in recent seasons. Daniels bachelor’s degree from Georgia is in psychology.
“I’m a huge advocate for performance and psychology in as a field in general and the impact it can play on a person’s life and on team success,” Daniels said. “I watched it happen firsthand at Georgia. Georgia takes a strong approach to the psychology game and it absolutely pays off in a lot of different facets.”
That Mississippi State game, he said, feels “forever ago and yesterday at the same time. It’s interesting. It’s kind of the way it is. I’ve pretty much moved every year since then somewhere else across the country. I’ve been a starter, backup, coach, career ended. As drastic as it may seem, it hasn’t really felt that way for me personally.”
His college career spanned six seasons at four schools. Daniels finished with 9,390 passing yards with 66 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.
“Definitely not what you expected but I wouldn’t take any part of it back for anything,” Daniels said. “I really did love my playing days and my playing career and I’m very excited for whatever comes next.”
The 15 Best Things To Do In Athens, Georgia, That Go Beyond Football

I like to pass the time on drives back to my college town by devising an itinerary based entirely on where I plan to eat and what I plan to do. No matter the purpose behind the trip to Athens, Georgia, whether a football-rival meeting between the hedges or a visit to a former professor's class, my focus is always the things that make it the most unique college town in the South, many of which are apart from school and football.
I start out by visualizing a map of the city. Punctuated by intersections I once crossed often, the streets easily link together in my mind to form a packed itinerary for a short trip. Here are the 15 best things to do in Athens, Georgia, for the perfect weekend in one of the South's best college towns.
Fun Things To Do
With well over 100 bars, restaurants, and shops hugging the small and walkable city-style blocks, Athens' historic downtown is more alive on an average Monday than many towns are on a Saturday night. Daylight hours see UGA college students filing in and out of various cafes, as locals pop into shops like Archer Paper Goods (a stationery lover's heaven).
Step inside Wuxtry Records for instant nostalgia. It's the oldest still-operating record store in Georgia, and the small store on East Clayton Street downtown is still packed with crates of vinyl records. Lead guitarist Peter Buck of Athen's most famous band R.E.M. even worked there for a short time.
After taking the University of Georgia's exit, I'm led to the familiar intersection of Lumpkin Street, Milledge Avenue, and Milledge Circle. This crossroads is the heart of the historic Five Points area, and that means the first stop is Condor Chocolates for a homemade pick-me-up. Influenced by their mother's Ecuadorean roots, brothers Nick and Peter Dale launched their first location on Lumpkin Street to make their chocolate confections. Their selection of artisanal truffles, bars, and other delights is vast, but their sipping chocolate and affogato are my go-to indulgences.

Once the sun goes down, innocent errands turn into late-night shenanigans. Spontaneous souls could end up dancing at the pop-up silent disco wearing big glowing headphones next to dozens of strangers; watching an indie film at Ciné, a nonprofit art house opened in an old tire-recap building; or sipping at the bar of Manhattan Cafe next to someone reading a Cormac McCarthy novel while others sway in the back corner next to the tattered jukebox with handwritten track cards.
Since Athens is home to many famous bands, including R.E.M, The B-52's, the Indigo Girls, Widespread Panic, and Drive-By Truckers, you'll find many historic music haunts like the 40 Watt Club and the Georgia Theatre, and you're bound to be able to catch a concert going on in those venues, as well as many others, throughout the weekend. You can also visit the rooftop of the Georgia Theatre for cocktails, snacks, great views of downtown, and occasionally late-night DJ sets.
On off-season Saturdays, the Athens Farmers Market at Bishop Park is bustling. I might snag a sip of Juju from The Plate Sale. Splitting time between Athens and Atlanta, Shyretha and Michael Sheats have made a name for themselves in the food and farming industries of North Georgia. If you can make it to a Plate Sale pop-up dinner, you won't regret it.
Located at the corner of Dearing and Finley Streets downtown, "The Tree That Owns Itself" is a local quirk respected even by the local government. (Go read the plaque.) According to a legend first printed in the local newspaper, in the late 1800s a previous owner of the tree's surrounding land left a will that deeded the tree possession of itself and all the land within eight feet of its trunk. Today’s tree is actually a “junior," as the original giant oak, estimated around 400 years old, fell over in the mid-1900s.

Where to Eat and Drink
Last Resort Grill celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022, and the downtown restaurant is still serving up local favorites that have garnered it “number one” for many. Some of its most-ordered dishes include its popular praline chicken, fried green tomatoes, and anything from its impressive dessert case.
Venture to West Hancock Avenue for dinner at The National. Although the globally inspired menu changes to reflect the seasonal bounty of northeast Georgia farmers, you’ll never be disappointed. Amongst the Mediterranean-inspired dishes, the vegetable plate is a unique standout.
The next day, I love taking an early outing to Independent Baking Company for a croissant or cinnamony Morning Roll. Right next to the famous five-point intersection, locals line up for fresh loaves, coffee, and pastries to go. I'll head toward campus via Lumpkin Street for lunch on the patio at Cali-N-Tito's. The beloved BYOB, Latin-Caribbean-inspired cafe is in a prime spot within walking distance of South Campus and tailgates alike.

Depending on my hotel check-in time, I may scoot a few doors down to one of the newer kids on the Five Points block. The Expat, situated in a quaint 1930s cottage, features a menu of Italian favorites, and the cleverly crafted cocktail list and friendly neighborhood service keep me coming back. The Royal Peasant, a British-style pub, is a great spot to catch a game or relax on the patio with their Bits and Bobs, like baba ghanoush or house-made chips and garlic oil.
At the end of the day, I venture back downtown to West Hancock Avenue for a drink at Creature Comforts Brewing Co., featuring the famed Tropicália IPA. The beer in question is a citrusy little number with hoppy notes. Due to production constraints, it garnered a cult following—borderline mania—when it was first released in 2014 and was even featured in box-office success Avengers: Endgame. And it still remains the most popular brew in town.

Afterward, I head to the Boulevard District, home to Maepole and White Tiger Gourmet, two off-the-beaten-path lunch places. Maepole, known for its plant-forward and gluten-free menu, lets you choose a base (like mashed sweet potatoes or quinoa), a protein, two sides, and a sauce. It approaches Southern food in a healthy, wholesome way.
White Tiger is my pick for barbecue and burgers, but the vegetarian offerings are impressive too. It's housed in a 100-year-old building that once served as a grocery store, so the charm goes far beyond the smoked meats. I finish out the night at Seabear Oyster Bar, where a dozen bivalves on the half shell are best accompanied by seasoned oyster crackers.

Located adjacent to downtown Athens, Normaltown is where you'll find the townies. The old-school strip of storefronts is now frequented by the impossibly cool. Bars here—The Old Pal, Hi-Lo Lounge, and Normal Bar—are the grown-up, hipper version of those downtown.
If it's Sunday, I'll mosey over to Food for the Soul for lunch. This eatery makes some of the best fried chicken and slow-cooked vegetables outside of Atlanta. For more fried chicken, head to iconic Athens spot Weaver D's. The owner's tagline "Automatic for the People!" later became the album title for one of R.E.M.'s most famed records.
With both my belly and my mind full from memories of a weekend well spent, I hunker down for my journey home. But if "Old Lady Luck" is on my side, it won't be long until I return, because there's one thing all Dawgs know: All roads lead to Athens.
