FAQs About Online Counseling and Therapy from ZenZone Health
Therapy will be different for each person, depending on their issues and goals. Typically, sessions involve discussing current events, personal history, and progress from previous sessions. Therapy can be short-term or longer-term, and it's common to have regular weekly sessions. Active participation is important for results, and your therapist may suggest activities outside of sessions to support your progress. Therapy is for those ready to make positive changes, open to new perspectives, and willing to take responsibility for their lives.
Therapy can help with mental and emotional problems better than medication alone. Therapy does more than just treat symptoms; it also addresses the causes of distress and the behavior patterns that limit progress. An integrated approach to wellness is best for long-term growth and well-being. Your doctor can help you decide whether medication, therapy, or both are the right choice for you.
Everyone experiences difficult times in life, and while you may have effectively dealt with other challenges you've encountered, there's no shame in reaching out for extra assistance when you require it. Seeking therapy is actually a sign of self-awareness and strength, as it indicates that you recognize the need for support. By seeking therapy, you are demonstrating accountability for your current circumstances and showing a commitment to making a change. Therapy offers enduring advantages and guidance, equipping you with the necessary skills to avoid potential triggers, redirect harmful behaviors, and conquer any obstacles that come your way.

Exploring the Many Benefits of Online Counseling in Johnson City, TN
Studies indicate that therapy is generally effective and offers numerous advantages. Therapy can help you recognize sources of distress, gain better self-understanding, and reach your goals. While traditional in-person counseling is an option for many, it's not for everyone. Here are some of the biggest benefits of online therapy:
Access to Support When Living in Remote Areas
Online therapy provides mental health support to individuals living in rural or remote areas who may not have access to traditional in-person therapy due to a lack of local mental health services. Seeking face-to-face therapy in such cases often involves long drives and significant time commitments, which can be challenging for those with busy schedules. However, with reliable internet access, telehealth therapy sessions offer a convenient and relatively quick way to access treatment that might otherwise be difficult to obtain.
Affordable and Convenient
While this wasn't always the case, modern counseling online is usually quite affordable and convenient. You can schedule therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home at times that suit you best. Plus, many states now mandate that insurance providers cover online therapy just like traditional therapy (you should contact your insurance company to see if telehealth counseling is covered). Add that to the fact that telehealth is generally affordable even without insurance coverage, and you can see why so many people check in with their counselors on a weekly and even daily basis.
Access to Counseling if You're Physically Disabled
When you're disabled physically, everyday tasks like getting dressed and running errands can be extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, disabled men and women often forego therapy because they can't make it to the therapist's office. Online therapy offers a way for people with disabilities or limited mobility to access mental health care. A therapist working from home may not have the facilities to cater to clients with different needs, but with online counseling, you can still access quality care.
Better Availability
Telehealth therapy sessions in Johnson City, TN offer an easier way for people to connect with a counselor, especially for those who need help but might be deterred by various obstacles. Individuals struggling with mental health issues like social anxiety disorder, depression, mood disorders, or post-traumatic stress disorder may find it difficult to motivate themselves to seek out a therapist, book appointments, and travel to their office for the initial and subsequent meetings.
If booking an appointment with a traditional therapist isn't in the cards, it could be time to try counseling online.
Therapy is More Approachable
The internet has made mental health treatment more accessible. People might find it easier to discuss physical health problems with friends and family than mental health concerns. However, online access can help overcome the stigma associated with mental health issues. Teletherapy can also be a valuable tool for learning more about mental health and strengthening your psychological well-being, even if you're not struggling with mental health issues.
A Note from ZenZone Health: If you or a loved one is experiencing suicidal thoughts, contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 on your phone. You can contact this number 24/7, day or night.
When is the Best Time to Seek Counseling Online in Johnson City, TN?
If you're reading this, chances are you or a loved one is struggling in life. You may be dealing with added stress at work, grieving after a traumatic life event, or working through a rocky relationship. Dealing with these issues alone can be challenging. But asking for help can be, too. That's especially true when you're dealing with mental health issues. Fortunately, a licensed therapist may be able to provide the support and tools you need to get back to a normal life. If you're wondering whether you need online counseling, keep these situations in mind.
Living with Substance Abuse Problems
Dealing with addictions, whether it's substance abuse or behavioral addictions like gambling, can feel incredibly daunting. Therapy is an essential part of the recovery process as it delves into the underlying causes of these issues. With help from remote therapists, you develop skills to help maintain sobriety and prevent relapses. For example, if you're struggling with alcohol addiction, an online therapist can help you identify triggers and teach you new, healthier ways to cope with those triggers instead of using alcohol.
Dealing with Relationship Issues
Relationship struggles can be a huge motivating factor for seeking therapy. These issues may involve friends, romantic partners, or family members. For instance, a couple may turn to couples counseling to address communication or trust issues. An online counselor can assist individuals in resolving these issues and developing improved communication skills, boundaries, and coping strategies.
Symptoms of a Mental Health Condition
Conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, ADHD, and PTSD can significantly disrupt daily life. Symptoms can manifest as constant feelings of worry or frequent headaches. Therapy, along with medication or lifestyle adjustments, can be an effective treatment for mental health. For example, a person with anxiety might learn relaxation techniques to manage stress levels with the help of a therapist. Similarly, someone experiencing depression may learn coping skills to maintain a more positive outlook on life.
New Challenges in Life
Dealing with common - albeit challenging - events in life, like losing a job, coping with grief, or undergoing major changes, can be very disruptive. If you find yourself losing interest in your usual activities, it could be a sign of a mental health condition like major depressive disorder. Therapy offers essential support and guidance for managing these issues, which can help individuals overcome their obstacles. For instance, a person grieving the loss of a loved one may benefit from online counseling as they navigate through their emotions. Similarly, someone who has relocated to a new city might find online therapy beneficial as they adapt to their new home, community, and workplace.
Trauma from Childhood
Childhood trauma can have a lasting impact on people as they mature. Virtual therapy with a licensed professional can assist people in processing these experiences and recovering from them, which may help them comprehend and address any existing issues. For instance, individuals who experienced neglect as children can work through feelings of abandonment in therapy, potentially alleviating the anxiety they may be feeling in their romantic relationship.

What's the best internet provider in Johnson City?
Johnson City is part of the Tri-Cities region, located in the Appalachian range of Northeast Tennessee. CNET's pick for the best internet service provider in Johnson City is local fiber and fixed wireless provider BrightRidge Broadband, previously known as the Johnson City Power Board. With speed options topping out at 10,000Mbps, BrightRidge is also the fastest internet provider in the city, outpacing bigger companies like Spectrum and Xfinity. Known for providing internet to the surrounding rural mountain communities, BrightRidge is available to 63% of the city, according to the FCC, and offers competitive pricing and straightforward internet plans.
If your address isn't eligible for BrightRidge, Brightspeed and T-Mobile Home Internet are solid next-best options. Brightspeed is the only other fiber provider in Johnson City, with speeds ranging from 200Mbps to 2,000Mbps and is available to 81% of the city, according to the FCC. With its affordable introductory prices and quick speeds, Brightspeed is a close second to BrightRidge. But Brightspeed's DSL option is more available to the city than its fiber, and unfortunately, DSL speeds don't quite measure up to the lightning-fast speeds of fiber. T-Mobile Home Internet is the city's best fixed wireless internet provider because of its wide availability, reliable speeds and high customer satisfaction. For $50 a month, you can get speeds ranging from 72 to 245Mbps, which is plenty fast for the average household and measures up against most fixed wireless providers.
If you're on the hunt for cheap internet, Xfinity offers the two cheapest internet options in Johnson City. For $30 a month, you can get 150Mbps, or for $45 monthly, 300Mbps. Xfinity's offerings are competitive and appealing, with most other internet plans starting at $50 to $60 monthly. Some providers, like Spectrum, offer low-income plans for qualifying households: Spectrum offers 50Mbps for $25 monthly, which isn't a lot of speed. Alternatively, Brightspeed offers a discount of up to $30 per month for customers who meet the requirements, meaning you could get up to 300Mbps for just $30 a month. Other internet providers in the city may offer bundling discounts, like T-Mobile Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet.
Tennessee doesn’t currently offer statewide programming to replace the loss of funding from the end of the Affordable Connectivity Program, so your best bet is to find a low-priced but cost-effective plan that works for your household needs or consider negotiating with your provider.

How to find internet deals and promotions in Johnson City
The best internet deals and top promotions in Johnson City depend on what discounts are available during a given time. Most deals are short-lived, but we look frequently for the latest offers.
Some internet providers, like Spectrum, may offer lower introductory pricing. Others, including T-Mobile and Verizon Home Internet, run the same standard pricing year-round. Verizon recently rolled out a new slew of streaming add-ons and bundles for just $10 extra monthly, which may sweeten the deal for potential 5G home internet customers.

What's a good internet speed?
Most internet connection plans can now handle basic productivity and communication tasks. If you're looking for an internet plan that can accommodate video conferencing, streaming video or gaming, you'll have a better experience with a quick connection with dependable download and upload speeds. Here's an overview of the recommended minimum download speeds for various applications, according to the FCC. Note that these are only guidelines: internet speed, service and performance vary by connection type, provider and address.
For more information, refer to our guide on how much internet speed you really need.
How CNET chose the best internet providers in Johnson City
Internet service providers are numerous and regional. Unlike the latest smartphone, laptop, router or kitchen tool, it's impractical to personally test every ISP in a given city. So what's our approach? For starters, we tap into a proprietary pricing, availability and speed database that draws from our own historical ISP data, partner data and mapping information from the Federal Communications Commission at FCC.gov.
But it doesn’t end there. We go to the FCC’s website to check our data and ensure we consider every ISP that provides service in an area. We also input local addresses on provider websites to find specific options for residents. We look at sources, including the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, to evaluate how happy customers are with an ISP’s service. ISP plans and prices are subject to frequent changes; all information provided is accurate as of publication.
Once we have this localized information, we ask three main questions:
While the answer to those questions is often layered and complex, the providers who come closest to “yes” on all three are the ones we recommend. When selecting the cheapest internet service, we look for the plans with the lowest monthly fee, though we also factor in things like price increases, equipment fees and contracts. Choosing the fastest internet service is relatively straightforward. We look at advertised upload and download speeds and consider real-world speed data from sources like Ookla and FCC reports. (Ookla is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)

THINGS TO KNOW – Please click HERE for all the "Things to Know" for Saturday's matchup with Samford, presented by Citizens Bank.
LAST TIME OUT - ETSU fell to Chattanooga last Saturday by a score of 17-10. The loss moves ETSU's record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in SoCon action.
BIG DAY FOR AJ & DEVONTAE - AJ Johnson had his best receiving game as a Buc totaling four receptions for 70 yards and hauled in ETSU's lone touchdown on the day. Devontae Houston, who missed the last few games, led the charge on the ground with 59 rushing yards on 11 carries (5.4 average).
DEFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MATCHUP AGAINST THE MOCS - Defensively, William McRainey totaled 12 tackles to lead the charge. Chris Hope added eight tackles of his own with a sack. Nick Hunter recorded ETSU's lone interception on the day. It was his second pick of the 2024 campaign. McRainey's 12 tackles against Chattanooga boosted his career total to 376, which ranks third behind only Fordham's James Conway (400) and South Dakota State's Adam Bock (380) among active FCS players. Hunter is the only SoCon player this season with two or more sacks and two or more interceptions.
SIMS ADDS TO HIS PASS BREAKUP TOTAL - Cam Sims added to his pass breakup total and is up to nine this season. Sims is third in the FCS in that category trailing only Jalen Jones of William & Mary (12) and DaJean Wells from Eastern Washington (10).
BRACKETT NAMED SOCON SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Nate Brackett helped ETSU change field position multiple times in Saturday's rivalry game vs. Chattanooga. Brackett, an All-SoCon First Team selection last season, averaged 48.3 yards per punt on six attempts. Furthermore, Brackett had a season-long 65-yard punt in the fourth quarter of Saturday's clash with the Mocs. Three of Brackett's six punts went 50 yards or further and he pinned the Mocs inside the 20-yard line three times as well. With his effort on Saturday, Brackett now ranks fifth among active FCS punters averaging 42.5 yards per punt. For his efforts, Brackett was named the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week.
BUC FAITHFUL SUPPORTING THE BLUE & GOLD - Saturday's attendance was 10,534 fans, which is the third-most in Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium's history trailing only the North Dakota State game earlier this season (11,040) and a game vs. Mercer in 2021 (10,594). The Bucs have now had capacity crowds in 15 of their last 17 games and 30 of the 40 total games played inside Greene Stadium.
RIGHT AT HOME IN THE REDZONE - The Buccaneers went 2-for-2 in redzone trips against the Mocs to improve to 22-for-24 on redzone chances this season. With six games to go in the regular season, the Bucs have already passed last season's total of redzone scores (21).
MOVING THE CHAINS - Despite having a season-low 12 first downs offensively vs. Chattanooga on Saturday, the Bucs are still pacing all SoCon teams with 118 first downs this season. In comparison, the Buc offense totaled 154 first downs all last season. ETSU is also the lone SoCon squad averaging over 400 yards a game of offense (412.7) this season.
RUSHING GAME FOR THE BUCS - Even being held under 180 yards on the ground for the first time this season, the Bucs enter week seven as the SoCon's top rushing team averaging 231.3 yards per game. As a team, ETSU's rushing average ranks eighth in the FCS. Furthermore, senior running back Bryson Irby remains the conference's rushing leader (515 yards – 19th nationally), yards per carry (7.25 – 10th nationally) and rushing touchdowns (5 – 30th nationally).
DIALED IN DEFENSIVELY - The Buccaneer defense has been stepping up recently as no opponent has scored more than 17 points in the last three games. ETSU, which ranks 20th in FCS in scoring defense (20.7 PPG), has not had a three-game stretch like this since the start of the 2021 campaign when they allowed just three points to Vanderbilt, 14 points to UVA Wise and six points to Delaware State.
SERIES REWIND AGAINST SAMFORD - The Bucs and Bulldogs have met a total of 11 times over the years with the first clash coming back in 1989. Samford has won eight of the 11 previous matchups, including a 42-28 victory a year ago in Birmingham. ETSU's victories against Samford came in 2016 (15-14), spring season in 2021 (24-27) and in the fall campaign later in the year (55-48 in overtime).
ABOUT SAMFORD - Samford is coming off back-to-back home victories against Alabama State (12-7) and VMI (27-3). The Bulldogs will come to Johnson City sporting an overall record of 2-2 and a SoCon mark of 1-0. A strength for the Bulldogs through four games this season has been their ability to not beat themselves. Samford sits only behind Columbia and Harvard in fewest penalties this fall. Additionally, the Bulldogs have thrown just two interceptions so far in 2024, which ranks as the third-fewest nationally. Samford (30:45) also is one of three SoCon schools that are averaging over 30 minutes of time of possession joining Mercer (33:55) and Chattanooga (30:37). The offense for the Bulldogs is very balanced. Through four games, Samford has ran the ball 146 times and has thrown 130 passes. Samford's Head Coach is Chris Hatcher, who is in his 25th season as a collegiate head coach. With Saturday's win over VMI, Hatcher has now won 180 games as a college football coach.

A great show for a great cause.
Today, 49 Winchester announced a special benefit concert to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts in East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and Southwest Virginia.
The concert is slated for Saturday, November 30th at the ETSU Martin Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Tickets are on sale now, will range from $30 to $40, and all proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.
Of course, the band comes from the heart of Appalachia in Castlewood, Virginia, and has built an audience throughout the region touring for years and building a fan base the hard way.
Chase Chafin, bassist and founding member of the band, says it’s a way for them to support the people back home who have supported them for so many years:
“49 Winchester is very proud to be from this region and looking after each other is a huge part of the ethos of Appalachia. We are very grateful for the support of our audience and all the folks back at home who have cheered us on for years.
When something tragic happens, it affects all of us. We are doing this show at the end of the touring season in hopes of raising funds in support of the recovery efforts for our neighbors in Western North Carolina.”
It truly encapsulates the spirit of Appalachia, and is just another amazing example of country artists stepping up to help their people in a time of great need. Luke Combs and Eric Church recently announced one as well.
Jennifer Clements, Executive Director of the ETSU Martin Center, echoed Chase’s sentiment in that they want to support their neighbors however they can:
“This concert embodies the spirit of Appalachia, where we come together to support one another in times of need. It’s more than just music; it’s a chance for our community to unite and help our neighbors after the devastation of Hurricane Helene.
By partnering with 49 Winchester and Second Harvest Food Bank, we’re creating an event that brings our community together in solidarity and support.”
49 Winchester most recently released their album Leavin’ This Holler in August, and tickets for this show are on sale now.

When a South Carolina father realized he might miss his daughter's wedding due to impassable roads from Helene, he made a remarkable decision to walk 17 miles to be there. David Jones joins FOX Weather to share his journey through miles of debris to witness his daughter walk down the aisle.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – A small red road reflector, a seemingly insignificant object, has become a beacon of hope for a South Carolina family in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
This humble pavement marker, once merely a tool for visibility, now holds a profound meaning. It is a testament to a father's unwavering determination and the kindness of strangers.
Helene's destructive force sought to sever the bond between David Jones and his daughter, Elizabeth. Yet their love proved to be more resilient than any storm.
Faced with the devastation, Jones embarked on a perilous 17-mile journey, crawling through debris, scaling obstacles and defying the wrath of nature to fulfill his most sacred duty as a father: to walk his daughter down the aisle.

'You can't go any further'
Jones and his wife had recently purchased a home in South Carolina, relocating from Johnson City, Tennessee. Their daughter was scheduled to get married in Johnson City on Saturday, and they planned to drive up on Friday for the wedding and a subsequent celebration on Sunday.
As deadly Helene approached, the couple weathered the storm in their new South Carolina home. After losing power, Jones assured his wife that they had a generator and plenty of fuel and told her he would attempt to drive north. If the roads were passable, he would contact her, and she could follow behind.
"Normally, by the time hurricanes get that far inland, they're usually just a rain event," Jones told FOX Weather.

However, with no internet or cell service, Jones and his wife were completely unaware of the devastation that lay ahead. What should have been a simple hour-and-a-half drive to just over the Tennessee border turned into a grueling seven-hour journey, filled with detours and delays.
"At that point, the state troopers were stopping everybody, getting them off the interstate and saying, you can't go any further, the bridges are out," Jones recalled.
He inquired about the back roads, but the troopers informed him that they were also washed out. Authorities were not allowing any vehicles to drive on the roads. When Jones asked about walking, the troopers advised him to return to his car and spend the night there.

"I said, 'I'm sorry. You don't understand. My daughter's getting married in Johnson City at 11 o'clock, and I'm going to be there to walk her down the aisle," Jones said.
The troopers expressed their sympathy for his situation but informed him that they were unable to allow him to continue. Not long after, the troopers dispersed from the roadblock, going about their duties.
"This was my chance," Jones said as he grabbed his backpack and threw in his shaving kit along with a couple of changes of underwear and socks.
A heartfelt toast
Equipped with a windbreaker and a cell phone light, Jones began his ascent up Temple Hill Road.
"After about 5.5 hours of hitchhiking and hiking, I made it downtown by 7:30 a.m.," he said. "I was able to clean up and then get to my daughter's wedding on time."
Throughout his journey, his daughter had no idea what he was going through.
"We didn't have cell service, so we couldn't talk," he said. "I instructed everybody that I told before the wedding, 'Don't tell Elizabeth, you don't want to upset her on her special day. We'll tell her after."
As Jones was walking the last part of his journey, he grabbed a life-saving road reflector.
"I apologize if I grabbed it from your driveway, whoever it was, I will replace it for you," he stressed.
(David Jones)
This reflector served as a beacon of safety for Jones. He would hold it up when cars came near so they could see him on the narrow road.
At the reception, Jones presented the reflector to his daughter and her new husband. In a heartfelt toast, he told them to keep the reflector as a reminder to always be there for each other, especially during difficult times.
"Just as it was for me," Jones said. "And to always reflect God's goodness as you have been."
Yet it was the real walk, though, when he finally got to walk his daughter down the aisle. That was the most emotional part of the final chapter of his taxing journey.

"I run marathons, so I knew I figured 20 or 30 miles, I knew I could make the distance. The question was whether I'd get there on time," Jones said. "I had a good Samaritan pull up in a white truck when it looked like I might be a little late, and he drove me out the rest of the way."
Through God's divine intervention, Jones said, everything fell into place for the joyous occasion.
In the end, his journey had not only brought him to his daughter's wedding but had also strengthened their bond in a way that would last a lifetime.
